Chesterfield Sofas

The chesterfield sofa can be described as a material or leather covered sofa with its arms generally the same height as it’s back. Most people believe that
Chesterfield sofas were given their name after Chesterfield, a town in
Derbyshire U.K. Some claim that they have been given their name in honor of the
Earl of Chesterfield, still that isn’t proven fact.

A different name for any leather or cloth sofa is “couch”, using the old French
word “couche”, or “coucher” this means to “lie down”, a couch therefore was previously a bed. The word couch refers to an item of residential furniture intended for reclining or sitting. The French named it a day-bed refering to almost any extended seating, like a chaise-longue made for resting as opposed to sleeping, the item usually had a raised top end.
