Any ideas of fuel additives that are great for lowering emissions?
I need to lower my emissions on my car, and wondered if you guys have used, or are familiar with any really good fuel additives I could try to make it run cleaner and smoother. The car is a 1991 Honda accord. Thanks for your time :).
there are alot of different additives out there, but what i would do is do a complete tune up, ie: plugs, wires, fuel and air filters, pcv valve, OIL AND FILTER, this is very important for the clean running of the motor and less pollutants into the air. you’ll find that after you change all these parts, not only will your emissions drop, but your vehicle will run better and get better mileage. also make sure your fuel injectors are clean and functioning correctly
Sea Foam Motor Tune-up claims to reduce emissions.
Look about half way down the page on the link below.
You can find this at most major automotive parts stores for about $5 a can.
Most people working at automotive parts stores are gear heads. So while you are there, you could ask someone at the sales counter.

Some people have reported good results form adding acetone to the fuel. I have not really seen any benefit in my tests however.
If you have deposits int he injectors or sludge on top of the pistons, sea foam will clean it off. Seems to make my engines run smoother after a treatment.
Running a gasoline with ethanol in it will boost the oxygen content of the exhaust and sometimes lower emissions.

well you could start off with making sure you have good spark plugs and clean oil as well as a new air filter. as far as fuel additives go i would recommend some fuel injector cleaner for your car. you can get it at any automotive store it is cheap and if you follow the directions on the box. it should help your emissions.

If your looking to lower the emissions in order to pass a smog check,I have and would suggest either 1 gallon of methanol poured into the fuel tank with a 1/4 or less tank of gas OR you can pour in rubbing alcohol into about the same mix with gas. Both will temporarily reduce the emissions. If thats what your looking for.

I have recently heard about an "add on" using water which you can build yourself at low cost that significantly reduces the fuel consumption of your car. One of the other published benefits of this is that it also cleans up your engine and reduces fuel emissions.
