Below we look at a report concerning a claim arising out of a Group B Strep infection. As the report shows sometimes having several doctors leads to errors instead of the consensus on diagnosis and proper treatment. The first doctor involved was the one who delivered the infant. This doctor either missed or ignored signs that the infant had contracted a GBS infection.
This same doctor thus did not report the existence of the worrisome symptoms to any of the doctors who would care for the child after transfer to the nursery. To compound the problem, the pediatrician who made rounds at the nursery likewise failed to take any action even though the baby was in respiratory distress.
Within several hours, the child went into respiratory and cardiac arrest and as a result was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The law firm that represented the family in this matter reported that they were able to achieve a $5,700,000 settlement on behalf of the family.
