Will clearing the Check Engine Light at a mechanic help me pass emission test?

I drive a 97 vw jetta gls and I failed the emission test due to the check engine light code that dealt with the torque converter. I dont have the money for it at the moment and my plates are about to expire. The car passed everything else but the only reason it failed was because the light was on. So will clearing the Check Engine Light like at an Autozone help me pass?

Thats not why it failed, take it to another mechanic

  1. nope and dont see where a transmission part would have anything to do with exhaust gases or motor

  3. Nope……….

The reason is that when we inspect or reinspect a vehicle we always scan the computer for codes, cleared codes and pending codes.

So if you clear the light the problem will still be there and a qualified shop will see this and fail the vehicle again……….
