Is the crank sensor part of the engine or emissions? ?
Warranty company won’t cover it but states it covers all engine parts. Mechanic replace it, engine ran bad. Now engine has to be replaced.

The warranty company can write any component as exclusionary even if it is a matter of opinion although it has to be clearly stated in your policy.
The crankshaft and camshaft position sensors have replaced the distributor which may or may not have been exclusionary components in warranty polices of the past as are manifolds, carburetors etc.
If the mechanic replaced a sensor and it didn’t fix your concern that is on the mechanic.
Part of the electrical. It is an electronic sensor on the front of the engine that picks up a pulse from the crank. It is part of the timing system

It is part of the emission system actually, and last I knew Emissions were covered under factory warranty up to 80,000 miles. But it depends on the vehicle as to where this component is located on this vehicle.

Both. It’s part of the engine control system, which is one and the same with the emissions controls on a modern vehicle. I wouldn’t call it an "Emissions Part" per se, but there is no way that it could cause mechanical engine failure unless you unbolted it, unplugged it and dropped it into the oil filler.

a crank sensor is considered to be a part of the ignition ,not the emission control system so warranty wont cover this part most of the time under remission controls,they should cover this though if the car is still under factory warranty,i don’t understand why the engine has to be replaced just from a bad sensor,especially a crank sensor,good luck.
