I found my gas cap was loose, how long before the emission light goes off?

Posted on October 20th, 2009 by admin

It looks like mymechanic forgot to put the gas cap back in the hole when he was fixing my car and I noticed it was out after the check engine emissions light came on. I was wondering how long it would take for the light to go off after I put the cap back in.
I have a 2005 Toyota Matrix
How do I disconnect the battery?

You can get it to go off right away if you disconnect the battery cables for a few minutes - that will reset the computer.

its doesnt. unhook the neg side of your batt for 2 minutes. or to tie to autozone and have them clear it.

It depends on the make/modle of the car. I had a KIA RIO that you had to take the car in to get the error cleared. But Kia’s are POS’s so I’m not sure with other cars
