Check engine light is on then its off- Will it pass emissions test?
So I failed the emissions test because the check engine light was on and based on the code it seems the O2 sensor is failing. I haven’t done anything to it yet, but the check engine light went away. Is it possible that it could pass the emissions test if I time it right?
no it won’t pass, even though the light went out ,it still stored the trouble code in the computers memory…so you’ll have to change the faulty o2 sensor and drive it till the code clears its self then take it in to get the inspection
no it will not pass the code is stored in to you car computer you have to get is deleted and drive it if it stays off the the readyness codes in you computer complete you will pass sometime you can get away with just deleteing it but sometime you have to place the part

yes it is possible, if the light is coming one due to a short or something else, then it can still pass. I have had this issue with 2 of my cars so far, both kept passing. Now if something is actually failing, then no it wont pass as it will be stored. But sometimes it is just a fluke that it is coming on, even more so if it is turning itself back off.
Most emission tests are free anyway.
