Under the cap and trade system, how many emission permits?

will nuclear power companies have to purchase?
Will that increase nuclear power investment or reduce it?
But Thomas D aren’t you one of the people claiming that would destroy the economy?
forgive me if you aren’t, so many people named thomas on her are always preaching doom and gloom about alt energy sources destroying the economy.

Very few, since nukes don’t emit CO2. This will make nukes more competitive with coal plants, which will be more expensive, unless they can actually deliver on "clean coal" (which currently doesn’t exist).

  3. I am hoping it will increase it, if we just built 400 more nuclear power plants we could produce enough electricity to provide for all the needs of the US.

We could all even drive electric cars.

EDIT: You are right, I hate this bill. But I want more nuclear plants in this country. The only issue is it takes so long to build them this bill will hurt us immeasurably in the meantime. What we need is just straight credits / tax breaks for the electric companies to build more plants now, spend the money there. Why not just do that instead of pushing this bill. And a bigger question, why do you think this will effect emissions at all.

  4. Seriosuly cap and trade isnt going to do anything to reduce emissions. Its corporations being allowed to trade pollution. Whilst they get rich selling pollution and hiking costs on the consumer by reducing emissions too slowly and not by enough the planet is going to die even more. Why do you accept that you should pay for corporations and governments mistakes? We need at least 40% reduction in emissions by 2050. Cap and trade will not give this. It also prevents other governments from taking serious action when the US cops out like this. I know it seems good that Obama is doing something after the science denying republicans refused to even acknowledge there was a problem but the only way to fight climate change is to phase out coal and oil within the decade. Business should be told either adapt or f*ck off. Simple.

No avail you dont seem to understand that when big polluting corporations get to make profits off climate change they have no incentive to do anything. Democrats have been conned. The government in my country is modelling our crappy cap and trade off your model. Thanks for supporting the death of our planet whilst not demanding real action

Comrade Otto, you don’t appear to know what is going on.
