i actually wrote the ETS plan for Australia and am currently fighting to get my credit for it.
Essentially the ETS is a scheme to penalise companys which pollute the air and environment by forcing them to REPLENISH their share of pollution in a number of ways.
Firstly companys can OFFSET their pollution by planting trees, since trees are known to absorb Co2 from the air (I’ve built one of Australia’s only Co2 calculators), then there are soil management systems such as those applied in the Moldova Soil project since by adding certain chemicals or mulch to soil will cause Co2 to become stored in that soil.
Other main ways are by using clean renewable energy, such as wind and solar so that companys are not burning coal.
In Australia not many companys currently offset any pollution and hence we are rated among the worst per capita polluters on Earth. We can easily reverse this with an ETS although rich companys and mostly the Liberal and National partys will never support it. An ETS is an extra tax on companys and since the Liberal party is all about maximising company profits it does not want an ETS. Simularly the Nationals are dead against it because they want to use land for agriculture and cattle stations so they can help rich farmers export products for maximum profits. The last thing they want is for farmland ot be turned into Co2 forests.
HOWEVER if a price is introduced for Co2 as it has been in the EU then a lively market will eventuate. Unfortunately Australia and USa are both very much against an ETS for many reasons including our high relative labor costs (it will cost us more to build solar plants or plant forests than in Latin america bor afrcia or asia), as a result the only Co2 marekt at present is a VOLUNTARY market mostly used by companys trying to "green up" their corproate image.
The gornerment has also introduced a RECS system whereby whoever produces extra unused power can feed it into the grid and claim RECS payments. However very few entities are making much use of this at present and it is mostly being rorted.
THe ETS will solve many many national problems including Indigenous issues since cleared lands can be replanted and payments granted to the landowners. I have modelled that all of Indigenous problems can be solved permantently with an ETS, this is why the Liberals are dead against an ETS as well, the liberals have never allowed Indigenous people freedom and an ETS would finally give them not only freedom but self determination, what they need and crave most.
As you can see, the ETS is one of the most critical issues of the 21st century and believe me when i say, the party has only just begun.. my modelling shows a multi billion dollar industry within 5 years which will be BIGGER than the oil industry in terms of profitability and gross revenues..

Car manufactures think that ( and the Gov. ) that changing monoxide to sulphate monoxide is better for Eco. The Catalytic converter is what makes ur car smell like rotten eggs after u race it. So the Gov. thinks that Sulpher monoxide is cleaning the air ( Cat. Converter). Just another wat for them to get money out of us. U.S… The U.S is scamming the American people just as bad as the Credit card Co’s.. I love my home country. But when the Home Crountry bilks there own ken, get pisseed. OK done.
