Why are diesel cars to hard to find and so expensive to buy? Any advice?

I’m looking for a used diesel car from the 1990’s to 2000’s and am shocked at how inflated the prices are. I was looking at an old diesel Volkswagen from 1991 from a private seller on Craig’s List and the owner wanted $6,400. $6,400!!! The Kelley Blue Book value was no more than $1,400 in excellent condition!

I understand why people now want diesel. But I am on a tight budget.

I just need a diesel car cheap. Where can I get one? Can you help me?

That’s exactly why they’re more expensive and hard to find…and they are in HUGE demand!
Diesel cars get on average 45mpg, the engines are rated to last waaay longer and diesel fuel is cheaper then gas now!

Even though yes you might be spending more then the gas equivelant or pay more then the KBB says… in the long run you’ll most likely save more money so don’t get caught up in the numbers and miss out on a find that could potentially be a great deal in the long haul.

I’d say just keep checkin out craigs list and autotrader and good luck!! :)

  1. Bio Diesel is the reason and fuel prices have made bio diesel a viable alternative. In California the state banned diesels in 2004 for passenger automobiles and that drove up the prices for used.
I would try some of the lesser known brands like Isuzu.
