Just use homebrewed biodiesel, duh. Why aren't all diesel owners doing this already? Hmmm, do I want to pay $4 for a gallon or $1?
References :
i don't know what mileage the gas vw's are getting, my wife and i drive tdi jettas, she has a 06 manual that she drives 600 miles a week on average. her car has about 55,000 miles on it and gets in the low 40's mpg. mine is a 2000 with a automatic has just under 200,000 milesand is getting in the high 30's. the oil is a little more than the gassers use but getting twice the mileage makes up for it. as far as the cost of gettinga diesel they will keep there value more than a gasser will. just look around and see how much a 06 tdi is compared to a new 08 gasser
References :
But... Have you noticed, depending where you live, I am on vacation, in Florida, and diesel is $4.19. and in Ohio, it is $4.09, would it be worth spending that much? I don't think so.
References :
DIESEL is more cost effective over the LONG run

Little Brother had a diesel Mercedes back in 1980 (a 1975 with 250,000 miles). Back then diesel was cheaper than gas, he got better mileage... he was spending almost 50% less on maintenance per year than I was spending on a '75 VW Dasher.
References :
Here's the concept, a diesel engine will get 2 to 3x the milage of a gas powered engine, although the price per gallon may be close to the same or even a little higher your going alot farther per tank of fuel. there is no more maintainance done to a diesel than a gas.
References :
My husband loved an early 80s diesel Mercedes he had. Even with a bit higher per gallon fuel cost, diesels will get way more miles per gallon. I don't think long term you'd likely spend any more for a diesel, and in most cases less. You're also going to get way more miles out of your car. The diesel Mercedes that he loved had 320,000 miles on it and was still going strong when someone wrecked into him and totaled it.
References :
You also need to consider that a petrol engine needs servicing every 10,000 miles, a diesel every 6,000 miles - though a diesel engine will keep on running pretty much forever if you look after it!
References :
I don't think it is, besides not all places sell diesel.
