How does saving energy help the earth? By reducing CO2 emissions, right?
well what is so bad about CO2 emissions? it stands for carbon dioxide right? is that the stuff humans exhale???????????? aswer please!!!!
Good question.
I work for an energy company and hopefully can help. Saving energy helps you and the environment. When you save energy, you save money on your power bill. It also helps to reduce the amount of energy that power companies need to produce. Since 50% of the US energy comes from burning coal and 20% from natural gas, it helps reduce the amount of carbon that these plants emit. Our company is a huge advacate for saving energy and encourage our customers to do so.
well what is so bad about CO2 emissions? Well, in small amounts? Nothing at all. We do exhel carbon dioxcide, but in small amounts. World wide we emit roughly 28,431,741,000 metric tons of CO2 every year from energy sources. Much more than the breathing of the human population. In large quantities, it can be very harmful to wildlife, air quality, etc. The amount of this affect is always debated, but the fact is that too much CO2 is definately not a good thing.

Power companies burn less fuel, which makes the fuel we have last longer. And it lowers you bills, and you get tax returns if you do green crap.

And what else is in the emissions? Mercury, uranium, lead, arsenic, fly ash,….. Ever hear of mountain top removal? They take the top of a mountain off, dump it in a nearby valley which can cause flooding when the stream/river is blocked and take the small amount of coal they find to burn. Cheaper and faster/easier than underground mining but you pay for it in taxes (for the mining company’s write offs) and higher insurance rates when someone makes a claim for a flooded house.

CO2 is exhaled by all animals. Plants use it to make food through photosynthesis. The largest amount of CO2 is stored in the oceans. CO2 is released into the air whenever anything dies and its release is accelerated by burning organic material and by burning fossil fuels which are the ancient remains of microscopic plants. Carbon Dioxide is not bad in and of itself. However, CO2 is type of "greenhouse gas" This means that is traps heat just like a blanket traps heat around your body. Plants remove CO2 from the air, but for the last couple hundred years people have putting far more CO2 into the atmosphere than plants can remove. Couple that with forests worldwide being cut down, we’ve got a big problem. By re-planting and preserving forests and using other energy resources such as solar, wind, and geo - thermal we can begin to off set this.
Energy reduction not only reduces CO2 production but also reduces the release of other pollutants. In addition, reducing energy prolongs stores of natural resources like coal, aluminum, iron, and other non - renewable resources.
