What would the exhaust emissions from a fusion rocket look like?

Posted on February 1st, 2010 by admin

If a normal chemical rocket blasts fire out of it’s rear end like idiot students try to do before "spontaneously" combusting, what would the exhaust plume/emissions be from a fusion rocket? Would flames come out like with a chemical rocket?

depends what type of fusion design.

I suspect that if the rocket was launching from a pad then it would probably ignite the air around it due to the extreme heat, so you’d see some sort of flames coming out of the engines.

In space however you’d probably just see a sort of faint glowing colour, probably purple or something similar (since hydrogen plasma is purple)

How do global warming predictors derive the growth rate of emissions?

Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by admin

Are they just an extrapolation of past to current trends?
Do they consider the constraint on population growth caused by a fixed supply of resources?
Our population is so big now and is rapidly approaching its limit.
Are the predicted emissions actually reasonable?

What can i do to help my car lower it’s emissions to pass a California smog?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin

So last month my 1991 toyota camry failed a california smog test because it apparently had 3x the amount of emissions that it should. I wasn’t there for the smog test so i can’t say specifics, but i was wondering if anyone had any tips as how to reduce the emissions, AND anything that might be causing a faulty reading. Thanks :)
If everything is working properly, put a new cat on it…that will clean it up..

I have a science project and i need a picture of the periodic table of emissions.. i just don’t know what it is. I tried to search for it but only the normal periodic table comes up.. can anyone please help me?

What is the standard emissions warranty for a 2004 Pontiac Sunbird ?

Posted on January 18th, 2010 by admin

A friend has a 2004 used Pontiac Sunbird with 31,000 miles. It failed the emissions test because of a bad o2 sensor. Would the o2 sensor be covered under a federal emissions warranty for up to 7 yrs or 70,000 miles and be replaced for free by the dealer ? Thanks.

the federal warranty is 8 yr 80000. i belive that only covers the pcm and converter. not o2 sensors

What types of emissions are produced by coal farming power and hydro electric power plants?

Posted on January 11th, 2010 by admin

What types of emissions are produced by coal farming power and hydro electric power plants and what are the effects of such emissions on human health and the environment?

Coal fired electric plants produce CO2, HCl, HCHO, CO, H2O, SO2, particulate… that covers the big ones. I’m not sure about hydro-electric plant emissions… If they just use the water to turn the turbines and generate electricity, they have no emissions. THis is not to say that they don’t have an environmental impact though. Hydro plants alter the water tables and can change entire ecosystems in the surrounding areas.

The coal plant emissions create smog, acid rain, and pump CO2 and H2O out in big quantities - these molecules absorb a lot of infrared energy, so they hold heat in the atmosphere.

What is the conservative alternative solution to carbon emissions?

Posted on December 30th, 2009 by admin

Conservatives oppose cap and trade, a measure which will gradually reduce green house gasses to just above pre-industrialization levels. However they propose no alternatives. How would conservatives go about reducing carbon emissions.

Man made global warming is not true. Therefore, there is no need to reduce carbon emissions.

How can I become a carbon emissions trader?

Posted on December 27th, 2009 by admin

I want to trade in carbon emissions or set up my own trading company. What should I do to achieve the same? I have a bachelors degree in Economics.

Carbon Emission trading schemes aren’t set up in any country that I know of as of yet.
My first tip for you is to wait and see where the governments of the world are going to take their individual policies before diving in to something.
One line of attack is if permits or quotas are released, buying quotas for specific un-used tons off smaller firms and reselling them to larger, more polluting ones such as Rio Tinto might be the way to go.

What percent of carbon emissions reduction do we need?

Posted on December 24th, 2009 by admin

People are burning cars in Copenhagen because the US did not pledge enough reduction in emissions.
How bad is the situation, and how drastic do we need to get to fix it? Do we all need to commit mass suicide so that only plants and animals survive? Can it be done without destroying the economy?

Why are the glaciers melting in Alaska??
Ask the people of Alaska. I did
The reason the glaciers are melting is because of the volcano’s that have erupted.
The ash from the volcano’s land on the glaciers,, the ash is dark, because it’s dark,it absorbs heat from the sun. Thus the ice melts.
To stop the melting,, stop the volcano’s from erupting.

How about those pockets of methane gas in the oceans,,if they erupt, the methane gas will be so strong that it will kill all living things on earth, How do you propose we stop that from happening??

Humans & animals exhale CO2, plants take in CO2,, Plants give off oxygen.
Cut off the CO2 to the plants and see what happens.

Al Gore took "his" private jet to Copenhagen,,,I wonder what his Carbon foot print was???

How much of our greenhouse gas emissions are from energy production such as coal?

Posted on December 9th, 2009 by admin

I’ve looked at a number of different sources, and they all give different answers ranging from 25% to 50%.

I just need to know, what percentage of the greenhouse gas emissions in the USA are due to energy production, such as coal plants? How about for the entire planet?

And could you please provide your source? I just want to go to the site and check out if it’s legit.

Hello Bruce,

The World Resources Institute has a number of graphs and charts showing breakdowns of greenhouse gas emissions and the like. There isn’t one that I could see that specifically shows proportions of GHG emissions due to energy production but by using data from both these charts you should be able to get a reasonably good idea…
