What would you say reducing Co2 emissions to 350ppm would involve?

Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by admin

e.g. would technological innovations and changes be enough, or would a wholesale re-organisation of how society works be required?

For example, I understand that ships produce massive amounts of Co2, so would addressing the problem mean restricting the amount of goods shipped around the world?

Alternatively, modern western society relies on an extended "supply chain" for food, which is sold in supermarkets and carried long distances. Would this have to change?

either
1) we have to invent some way to reduce the concentration of co2 gas in the air..this may invovle inventing chemical process to remove co2 from air, or other geo-engineering schemes or any other dreamy earth-saving idea..
this will definitely involve lots of research, some talented human-brains, path-breaking idea, and monetary support to carry out research.
or
2) you have to reduce the population of the earth to that extent , so that co2 generation is reduced, and the system will automatically readjust itself to 350 ppm level by creating new forests…
this will involve calculating number of people which earth can support to hold on 350 ppm level…and then find the ways how to eliminate the excess population from the earth
or
3) if you donot want to reduce population, you have to force the people to enjoy all the modern amenities they are enjoying now…close down industries, ban on cars, electricity ..etc
this will involve again come to a solution which amenities which industry you have to close down so that you can come to your desired target..
or
there may be many..think about it..
lastly
4) if you donot want to do anything,,
a)you can make business out of it and make lots of money by fooling people…
b) you can use it for your political and social agenda…

conclusion…you can use co2 in any way you want…

What is the probability that the world will unite to lower CO2 emissions enough to make any difference?

Posted on January 18th, 2010 by admin

Please no speeches about whether GW is real. I’m only asking about getting the world united about anything. 100% would be total confidence in world unity. Given that we can not get unanimous support to boycott Iran to prevent nuclear catastrophe. China and India both have said they will not slow down development. To my knowledge not one signer of Kyoto met their target. How do you convince third world people living in poverty to remain poor. My guess is that the likelihood of success is <1%.

No, but it is interesting that the United States is halfway to the target without any government laws or regulations whatsoever.

The world will not unite because it has become about economics and payments from producer nations like the United States to developing nations - ironically, including China, one of the world’s worst polluters. Everyone simply wants a payoff.

Why are Democrats for reducing CO2 emissions, but not for Deforestation Prevention and Reforestation?

Posted on January 11th, 2010 by admin

Democrats will spend Billions on reducing CO2 Emissions(Cap and Trade), but will not spend anything on Deforestation Prevention and Reforestation. The forests of the world can process the extra CO2 only if they are not cut down. Reducing CO2 output will not solve the problem at all unless you also reforest.
Example: Obama voting against reforestation at the REDD Climate Summit in Copenhagen last month.

Simply put, because there’s no money or power in reforestation. People like Al Gore can’t get rich by planting trees, but they can by trading carbon credits.

When the Lib’s pass cap and tax do you think the bill will include second hand co2 emissions from people?

Posted on January 8th, 2010 by admin

Since we all exhale Co2 and the EPA has deemed harmful do you think we should have to breath someones second hand breath? I don’t like breathing cigarette smoke and this is regulated. The Dems will probably regulate second hand breathing too.

They found a way to tax the air we Breathe.

What are US goals for reducing total domestic CO2 emissions?

Posted on December 24th, 2009 by admin

In percentage, if possible.
Thank you!
Only for CO2 emissions please. Not overall greenhouse gases.

In percentage, if possible.

Thank you!

The U.S and China plan to limit Carbon Dioxide waste given off by both their nations. These two nations are the biggest polluters on the Earth. The most recent U.N meeting the U.S representatives agreed to cut emissions by nearly 37 percent for the near future. China has already cut by 50%.

What are the co2 emissions (in lbs per gallon) of a CNG bus?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin

I cannot find this for the life of me. I know that typically 19.4 lbs of co2 are released for every gallon of gasoline, but I need to know how much compressed natural gas (CNG) produces!!!

CNG or compressed natural gas, (CH4) is a compressed gas and not a liquid. It is not typically measured in gallons. Liquids that are stable at room temperature and pressure are measured in gallons. LNG (liquid natural gas) is a liquid because it has been compressed and cooled.

In this article: http://www.triplepundit.com/2006/11/askpablo-clean-natural-gas/ you will find a very careful discussion of gasoline and CNG emissions. It turns out that CNG produces less particulate matter and about 70% of the CO2 that would be required from a gasoline powered vehicle.

Why has 0bama cut n run on Copenhagen? Shouldn’t he just cut our CO2 emissions to zero via green jobs?

Posted on November 26th, 2009 by admin

… and all that wonderful technology he swore he would create?

Why does he care what other countries do about CO2? Shouldn’t he just lead the way, set an example and cut our emissions to zero? Besides, didn’t he promise we would get wealthier in the process via green economy?

THE PROBLE IS THAT THE "AMERICAN LIFESTYLE" OR RATHER "DEVELOPED NATION LIFESTYLE IS BASED OF EXCESS CO2 PRODUCTION!

NOW WHICH POLITICIAN WOULD ASK THE PEOPLE TO COMPROMISE IT AND BE ELECTED AGAIN!?!

WORLD BANK SAYS: DEVELOPING NATIONS HAVE TO "PAY" THE PRICE FOR THE EMISSION OF THE DEVELOPED NATIONS!
EN THAT TOO FOR 80% OF THE CO2 FROM DEVELOPED NATIONS!

ESTIMATES SAY DEVELOPED NATIONS NEED TO HELP DEVELOPING NATIONS WITH JUST 1% OF THEIR GDP TO REDUCE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT SIGNIFICANTLY!
BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO….

isn’t the atmosphere too large to be affected by human CO2 emissions?

Posted on November 24th, 2009 by admin

Let me start by saying that i am a strong believer in AGW.
A recurring argument presented by the deniers is that "the atmosphere is far to large to be affected by human emissions of CO2", would someone be able to explain to me why this is not the case?

Thanks.

The atmosphere may seem to large to be affected but this conclusion is drawn from one’s limited perspective. Actual measurements of CO2 have been regularly conducted and compared with proxy measurements of past levels. The portion since 1958 as directly measured is known as the Kelling Curve.

Since pre-industrial times CO2 levels have risen from 280ppmv to the current level of 387ppmv. Prior to this period CO2 varied little from 280ppmv for several thousand years.

Isotopic analysis of the carbon making up the CO2 molecules present in the atmosphere indicates a growing proportion of "old carbon". This demonstrates the source to be the burning of fossil fuels.

So, atmospheric CO2 has increased by about 38% during the time of industrialized societies and we know a significant source of that increase to be from the burning of fossil fuels.

Can the US best reduce global CO2 emissions by reducing trade with China?

Posted on November 20th, 2009 by admin

US manufactures are more efficient and produce less CO2 than their Chinese competitors.
http://americaneconomicalert.org/view_art.asp?Prod_ID=3225
Should the Obama administration put a high carbon tax on Chinese imports (and other high emission countries)? Can Americans go green and reduce their $200 per person per month trade deficit by buying US made goods?
Several thoughtful answers. Lets see where the vote goes.

I think this question is somewhat backwards:  if CO2 emissions are priced into the cost of goods, American producers will have a competitive advantage over China and imports from China will be reduced.  China has a smaller economy than the USA despite greater CO2 emissions and 4 times the population.  This says something about efficiency and competitive advantage.

Whether trade is reduced is another question.  China could just as easily trade US bonds for goods as the reverse.  This might not fit with China’s policies, but the current policy isn’t in the interest of the USA or the world so it makes no sense to continue it.

Can you write me a poem about Cutting back on CO2 Emissions?

Posted on November 16th, 2009 by admin

That would be great. I need it to add to my poster entitled "Open A Window" catchy, I know!
Anyway, I feel like a neat poem would be a great accent to my poster.
Thanks in advance!

Yo,yo, yo, YO! I want to get a shot out to all my Homies in Sacto, Dog Chapman, the HAMC, and Lemmy from Motörhead! YO! yo, I dedicates this to my lovely Canadian Chunky Monkey….

Reducin’ CO2 is easy cause you’re beautiful
Reducin’ CO2 with you is all i wanna do
Reducin’ CO2 is more than just a dream come true
And everything that i do is out of reducin’ CO2
La la la la la la la… do do do do do
WhhhhooooohhhHHhoooowwwwoooooo

No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old

And we will live each day in springtime
Cause reducin’ CO2 has made my life so beautiful
And every day my life is filled with reducin’ CO2
Reducin’ CO2 I see your soul come shinin’ through
And every time that we oooooh BANG!
I’m more in love with you
La la la la la la la… do do do do do
