Germany And France Angry At EU Over Car Emission Fines…?

And so it begins. Do you not think this is a bit rich? And where exactly are these ‘fines’ going to go to?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7151862.stm

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has opposed European Union (EU) plans to cut pollution from new cars, saying it was "not economically favourable".
She said the move would burden Germany and its carmakers disproportionately.

Under the EU proposals, carmakers that fail to meet carbon dioxide emission limits by 2012 will face fines.

Penalties will start in 2012 at 20 euros (£14.35; $28.80) per gramme of CO2 over a target level, and will grow to 95 euros in 2015.

Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the EU was "committed" to being a world leader in cutting CO2.

However, Germany’s BMW and France’s Peugeot criticised the move.

its not going to matter who opposes what, the little band of Hitlers that run the EUseless are in this for to long term profit

they are there for their good and not the peoples, if they do as they want and fine countries for emissions, it will be the EUseless that profits. all the while knowing the fines are smoke and mirrors

they may be committed ? but to what really and who?. the eruocrats will soon learn they have put themselves under a dictatorship and nothing less.

the fines will all inevitably fall on us the tax payer, until we are reduced to begging for hand out from the rest of the sensible world.

why is it 90% of the world scientists say we cant stop global warming and its side effects, that it is part of the natural evolution of the Planetary cycle. yet governments tell us we can stop it with TAX

profit and power

  1. Like all other fines they will be regarded as a source of revenue for whoever is responsible for policing the legislation but do you not mean carbon monoxide?

  2. It may just prove to some narrow minded and blinkered British people, incapable of seeing things from anything but their own perspective, that other European countries sometimes have issues with the EU as well and that the EU is not a pseudonym for the national government of Germany or France.

… but then I doubt it.

  4. The car manufacturers of Europe successfully lobbied against proposals by the EU to introduce minimum fuel efficiency standards for cars quite a few years ago now. Who are the real losers there?

Looks like the EU is coming back for a second go now the focus has moved onto CO2 emissions in more recent years.

Think how much petrol costs in the UK, is it really such a bad thing if the result is cars with significantly improved fuel efficiency. Resistance to change doesn’t surprise me though.
